Trial flights are available every day the club is operating and they are a great way for new people to discover the sport. Trial flights offer you a chance to experience gliding in a two seater DG 1000, with one of our instructors.

If you happen to be passing, or are happy to take your chances, you are most welcome to turn up, watch the activities, and arrange your flight with the duty instructor.  Trial flights are a great gift for people of all ages and experience.

We recommend you contact the club first to arrange a suitable time.

Gliding is an aviation sport conducted all over the world with National and International competitions held annually. We recommend you take a look at these progress paths to see where gliding can take you. There are a two ways to get you started on your way to becoming a gliding pilot with our club, through packages that we offer - pay as you go & pre-pay to solo.

With pay as you go, you can pay your club membership fee for each flight as you go. This option is best for those who are familiar with flying and are expected to advance quickly.

The pre pay to solo plan has been put in place as an optional form of membership at a fixed price. The plan does not guarantee a member his/her first solo flight within the 6 month time frame and 40 flights, but experience shows us that students of average ability should attain the standard required for a safe and satisfying first solo flight in one of our two-seater aircraft. All flying done after the first solo flight is charged at normal Club rates.

To get an idea of the cost you can take a look at the membership fees, as it gives a summary of all the fees involved. All members will enjoy full use of the Wellington Gliding Club and its facilities and likewise be bound by its rules.

We also offer training flights over the summer. The club runs a seven day a week operation from December to March. The operation is fully staffed with instructors, tow pilot, and ground controller. We can even text you on the day with the conditions on the field. Mid week training slots are much sort after and are best booked in advance.
